There's a little bit of devil in the way she looks

There was always some slave around helping her with something in her life. This time it was to get her properly dressed to go outside. Gunnvor was a fighter more than she was a “lady” so her dress wasn’t really a dress, it was the practical armored version of it, black. She gestured the slave to go away and grabbed her dagger, shoving it into his protection on the small of her back. Usual woman braided their hair, Gunnvor held her black here loose, in combination with that pale skin and those distinct green eyes she was immediately recognized by everyone she passed. When she walked into the great hall she saw some of the man talking with Rigas. It was always something, battle, problems, small disputes. After that Rigas become an earl two years ago things changed. Where she grew up in Skagen to become a leader she was forced to Skagerrak, got married and got a son, became some kind of leader also. Life wasn’t bad, she wouldn’t complain about the love, the respect, the leadership, certainly when she could do it with Rigas.

Her destiny today were the docks. Growing up in Skagen, among the best of boat builders give her some advantage here. If they wanted to sail soon, or raid, travel, they needed ships and with the little insight she had from when she was young she gave the boat builders here something to work for. When she arrived at the docks her look went over the traders, they all passed her with a short bow, not really looking but in a way they still looked. Every village had a different manor of crafting, the boats here weren’t that large but equally quipped to sail away. ‘How are we doing?’ She asked one of the ship builders. He bowed, pointing towards the docks. ‘We made three, I know we aren’t going that fast but we don’t have the proper amount of men to do it.’ He honestly spoke. Gunnvor looked away from the boats to the man, nodding softly. ‘I understand.’ She reacted, in a distant friendly way. The man bowed again and Gunnvor walked back to the docks. The wood made a cracky noise when she walked over it towards one of those ships. She crouched down, stroking her fingers over the wood, smiling about all the things she could do with these magnificent vessels. Her green eyes, traveled over the boat, up to the mast, nodding on the fine work those ship builders did. Maybe someday she could sail again, learn about everything else out there and maybe conquer back what was hers to begin with.

He always liked to be by the docks. Especially on a sunny day like this. It was a perfect place to hang around while sharping your blade or dagger. This time it was his small dagger that he got from his father. It was old and used by many others before, but it was dear to him. The hilt was mainly made of wood with carved figures. However, these figures were faded during the years. Despite the traces of use, he loved the dagger and always kept it close to him.

There was always a lot of movement by the docks, just like now. Some sailors were busy with preparing one of the boats, and every now and then he heard some cursing. It was clear that not everyone was enjoying the day and the work they were doing. A skinny little boy tried to help his superior with provisioning the ship, but he failed in almost everything he did. Once again, he stumbled across the railing and dropped a basket filled with vegetables. It was highly amusing and Torsten couldn’t hold his laugh any longer. At some point he saw a woman coming from the village. He didn’t recognize her at the first sight, but then he realized it was countess Gunnvor Skaeringsdóttir. He greeted her with a little nod and grin. He did not know her well enough for an exuberant greeting. However, he had to admit that she was a good looking woman, so he wouldn’t mind if their greetings started to get slightly more exuberant.

While it looked like she studied the carving of the ships she was surly looking to more than only that. Gunnvor wanted to know all, it wasn’t something she left open for discussion, she wouldn’t go in somewhere without talking it over. Although she didn’t look like a fighter with this posture of her, slim and not that tall, she had sure the capacity. But more than that she had a keen eye for details. She saw the sailor trader looking at her and ask himself who she was, she saw the little kid steal a fish out of one of the baskets. She saw beauty in these ships, ships that would sail a great length someday. Imagining that day was already enough for her to get a small smile on her lips while her eyes traveled up to the water. Skagerrak would raid under his new earl someday, not around but father away. She knew Rigas was eager to travel open seas but for that you needed the manpower, alliance and the fortune. Witch they all had, it only needed some more precision and detail.

Gunnvor left the ship, walking back to the docks were she noticed a man sitting, sharpening his dagger. She nodded in first reaction when they changed some kind of a look before she walked on. But on hardly some distant from him she turned around, seeing how he pointed his attention back to the dagger he was sharpening. ‘Torsten.’ If he thought she wouldn’t know him, or recognize him he was wrong. Although it took her some steps before realizing it was him, she saw him at least. ‘Keeping watch over the water or just amusing yourself with the smell.’ She pointed up in the air. You couldn’t miss that typical salty sea smell. To her fighting force she was often a lot more cooperating than to a total stranger, despite she didn’t know Torsten that well, he fight for her and that kind of men just deserved a little gratitude for their work. By definition, he was willing on dying for her, If it was thought, maybe she would find out that much, or maybe she could entertain her work on the docks a little by his presents.

She and her husband Rigas were head of Skagerrak right now. But it wasn’t that long ago that her husband defeated the former earl and took over Skagerrak. Torsten must have been a young boy that time, but he didn’t remember much. Probably because he didn’t care at that time. They became more important to him since he received the title Viking. Gunnvor noticed him and nodded back. ”Torsten. Keeping watch over the water or just amusing yourself with the smell?” The salty air couldn’t be missed by anyone. After a while the scent of it would get less notable, but it was always present. If he was on the shores for too long he always started to miss it after a while. Fortunately for him, he never lived far away from salty waters. ”I guess both,” He chuckled. There wasn’t too much movement on the waters. Everyone already sailed out for the day and all the other boats weren’t ready to set sail yet. ”What brings you here?” Torsten was a curious guy. All the time looking for answers on his questions. He kept wondering how the life of a countess or earl would look like. The title came along with a lot of responsibilities.

Rigas his warriors were key of this village, they stood higher that they probably knew. Gunnvor admired them for their loyalty, they passion in defending the village, their earl, fighting their way through battle. Although not all of them could be so loyal … some maybe still wanted the previous earl, disagreed with the manor of ruling that Rigas did. That’s why Gunnvor always held a sharp eye on the Vikings and shield maidens, she knew them by only looking. She knew their manor of fighting, their names, If they had a wife or husband waiting home, children. She could pick the loyal one right out. Her keen eye never disappointed her, although Gunnvor seemed sometime distant in a conversation, you knew when she did that she was observing and in that way you never wish she was looking at you, because then you knew there was something worth looking to you for. Good or bad.

When she past Torsten she wasn’t planning on talking because de boats got all her attention but on another note she turned around to him. Knowing he was a Viking for some time now and had proven himself to be one of the loyal once she hardly needed to be distant. Which caused her to send out a little humor on the way. Her distinct green eyes kept resting on him while he looked to the water for a second, smiling. She smiled with his answer, looking over the water herself. ‘We should give you a more fitting task to your reputation Torsten.’ She answered him back on that. When he asked what she was doing here her eyes traveled towards the boats. ‘Looking over the fine work of the shipbuilders.’ She gestured him to stand up and follow her. ‘Investigation where we hopefully in the future will travel with.’ She nodded towards the ships. ‘Have you much knowledge about boats?’ She asked, not looking aside to him but to the ships. If he had he could maybe give his opinion about it, if not, the same.
