• Personality: Kol is incredibly ambitious. He comes from literally nothing, but refused to accept that he was destined to remain there, and did whatever he had to do to rise as high as he possibly could.

Growing up the way he did, with a mother who was constantly taken advantage of, and as the oldest of three siblings, Kol has developed a protective streak a mile wide. He is extremely protective of his family, but also feels a bit of a kinship to other people who come from a similar background, or who are forced into a situation they have no control over. He’s very sympathetic to their plight, and if he can help in any way, he will try to. He understands that not everyone deserves the things that have happened to them, and if given the opportunity, they could become someone remarkable.

Being a street kid actually helped Kol to push himself, giving him traits and abilities he probably would’ve have developed otherwise. Because of this background, he’s a very shrewd person. He’s got a strategic mind, he’s good at making logical, concise plans, and he’s good at looking at the whole picture and thinking outside the box when it comes to problem solving.

Kol is a very confident man. He knows he’s smart, he knows he’s good looking, he knows what he wants, and he’s willing to make sacrifices to try to get it. He likely borders on arrogant at times, but for the most part he’s a fairly decent person.

He is also very hard-working. He’s more than willing to put in the time and effort to get what he wants. He doesn’t ask for handouts, and he rarely asks for help, preferring to take care of his business on his own. As a child, that meant finding and making money however he could; usually stealing. As a teen and adult, it meant working and training as hard and as long as he possibly could, to constantly improve and provide for his family.

• Appearance: Kol has blonde hair and blue eyes, is tall, around 6’3”, with a thin, but muscular build from years of being undernourished,  and then years of training. He has multiple scars all over his body, as well as multiple tattoos.

• History: Thyra Odinsdóttir was an orphan in Kattegat. She had few skills and basically worked as a servant in a tavern to earn some money to support herself. When she was fifteen, she was raped and got pregnant, and had her first child, Kol. He grew up as a street kid, essentially, playing in the streets, learning early how to sneak around without being seen, pickpocket, and steal. He often gave whatever he ‘found’ to his mother, to help her out, and while she reprimanded him every time, she still took it, so he continued to do it.  Some of the men in the village view Thyra as an easy target, a young, single woman with a child to support and she had two more children by the time he was ten years old, giving Kol a younger brother and sister.

The three children were always close, but Kol took his responsibility as oldest seriously. He’d been getting into fights and scraps since he was a kid, and figured he could put those skills to good use by becoming a herra when he turned 14. He trained hard, and tried his hardest not to get into any more trouble, and managed to rise through the ranks fairly quickly. Now that his time was spent being more productive, and not getting up to mischief, he was able to show off his intelligence and mind for strategy, a trait that helped him rise farther than he’d ever thought possible.

In order to achieve the success he wanted, he had to assume more and more responsibility, but he rose to the challenge on every occasion, and eventually was named the Thane in Kattegat. It is an honor he doesn’t take lightly, and he plans to prove that that decision was no mistake.

As soon as he was able to afford it, Kol made sure his family was safe and secure, so his mother could stop working at the tavern, and so his brother and sister wouldn’t have to live their lives as hard as he had. Once he’d saved enough, he had a big house built for them all so they would be happy and safe. And then he recently bought a thrall to help keep things tidy and so his mother could finally spend her days relaxing.
