• HISTORY Ever since Maurr was born, he was destined to be a thrall. His mother was once given to the earl of Skagen as a gift. Some sort of peace offering by a chieftain who had crossed the lines. He had to pay a fine for breaking the rules. His mother was part of that deal. When he was just a kid, he didn't really have to do anything. He could just go out and play, if he wanted to. If his mother was working, other thralls took care of him. His father was a regular villager, but he was not interested in raising his son. His night with Maurr's mother had just been entertainment to him.
When he was old enough to start working, he was first used as a servant by the earl and his family. After a while, when it became clear he would grow tall and strong, he was sent to the harbour. There, he worked as a thrall for the shipbuilders. Fetching them tools, towing away heavy materials and so on. He quickly developed his muscles, and could easily be mistaken for a Thegn.
The older he got, the more frustrated he became with his rank. He didn't want to be a thrall, he wanted to train to be a Viking as well. The few friends he had made when he was a child, all got into some sort of profession. He was left behind, they lost interest because he was just a thrall. He knows all too well he is not supposed to question his position, but he does so anyways, which sometimes gets him into trouble.
