One morning Hedvig went down to the beach before training. She was tired, really tired and it suddenly crushed down on her that day. She thought about those good old days when her father was still alive and she just started her practice to become a shieldmaiden. A lot changed since that and she felt like she will never be that happy again as she was that time. Hedvig missed who started their training with her to achive their dreams to became a fierce warrior. Some of them we already feasting in Valhalla, some left, but nobody stayed the same. Hedvig became less serious and much more bitter since that, she felt like she wasn't that good to be around anymore. She started to get tired of the constant loneliness, what she craved for after her father's death, she even moved to the outskirt of the village to avoid others, it became a burden for her.
Sitting in the sand, the wind gently blowing her hair, watching as the calm tides washing over the shoreline, lost in her long forgotten memories, she felt more alive than in years. She was thinking about her father, her mother, her little brother, her family. She lost all of them. Then she was thinking about her other family, the soon to be warriors, who were fearful and filled with hope. Those naïve, eager men and women were gone too. She never felt more alone. The sadness washed over her, like the waves over the beach, and a single teardrop fell from her eyes. She reached up to wipe it away and she caught something in the corner of her eyes. She was so deep in her thoughts, she just realized then somebody was slowly approaching her.
