| Garth had been spending the entire day at home today. He woke up early in the morning to start getting his house ready. First he had taken the time to organize everything and make his house look neat. Then he had spent a few hours cleaning everything up, from the top down. It almost looked like no one lived in his home, and that it was just for show.So Garth started to worry that that would look weird, and staged items out of place in a few areas. He couldn't remember the last time he had been this nervous about anything. Iliana was going to be coming over for their dinner together today, and Garth just couldn't sit down with the thought of it. He wanted her to feel comfortable in his home, and he wanted to make a good first impression on her when she came inside. He was sure most women liked clean houses, and if he was honest his had been pretty bad off before he got up this morning to clean it. He was a man and didn't care if there were things all over, plus it wasn't like he brought women home. He really wasn't that type of man, and never had been. He wanted to be in a committed relationship with a woman to be to intimate, not wanting to be anything like whoever his birth father was. So he never really had to ready his house to impress anyone before. Once the house was set up in a way that he thought would be normal, he went about getting the food be had bought and hunted together and ready to be cooked when she got there, he had to remind himself that they would be cooking together, and to not just do everything on his own almost twenty times as he prepared everything. Garth then put the flowers he had gathered the night before on the table, as well as some plates, cups, and silverware. Setting it all up as nicely as he could. He was starting to feel like a woman doing all this work, but her really liked Iliana, from what he knew of her anyways. She was smart, and beautiful, maybe a little shy? She was brave as well, to move from home and to a new place, just like he had done himself. Garth hoped and prayed to the Gods that they would be able to talk more, and get to know more about one another. He wanted to know about her past, her dreams, what she wanted from life. Pretty much everything she would share with him he wanted to know about her. He would share those things with her in return as well. He would tell her of his want of a family, and how he wanted to become the greatest blacksmith in the area. He would tell her of his past, and how he never really had a real father. Anything she wanted to know he would tell her. Garth just hoped that this would bring them closer together, that it would help him like her more, and maybe if he was lucky. She would start to like him back, in more ways then a friend. He would do his very best to give her the world, if that wasn't weird to think at this moment. He would give whoever he married the world, and all of him, but he could see that being her. If this night went well. Walking over to the table he set down, he made sure to put the knife he had made for her on her plate. He had spent two entire days with hardly any sleep making it as perfect and beautiful as he could. Making an design in the blade, and adding all the colors she told him she liked to the handle. He had burned himself at least seven times putting the stones and tiny gems into place, but he was certain that this was his best work yet. She would be able to take someone down easily if they tried to hurt her with this knife, and if she didn't he would finish them off with his sword. Anyone that dared hurt her had nothing more then a death wish in his eyes, and she wasn't even his women yet. Gods help them when she was. Everything thing he could think to get ready was now ready, and now Garth had to play the waiting game. He had gotten ready a little bit too early, and would have to pace his house while his nerves took over his body. He just hoped she would be comfortable in his home with him. He had already been pretty awkward in how he invited her here in the first place. "Any moment now" he told himself as he paced around waiting for the knock at the door. |

| Iliana had spent the day in her shop, making jewelry, and trying not to think about how potentially awkward her evening was going to be. Obviously she was unsuccessful because she was an eternal pessimist and always jumped to the worst conclusions. She’d almost considered pretending to be ill to get out of it, but that would just make things even more awkward, and it was just plain rude. You didn’t repay favors by lying and going back on your word, so she was going, no matter how disastrous she imagined it would be.
It probably wasn’t at all fair to Garth to assume the evening would be a disaster, but he seemed so nice and Iliana… wasn’t. And she didn’t want him to find that out about her when they were only just becoming friends. She didn’t really have any friends in Kattegat yet, and she couldn’t go ruining the only promising relationship she had at the moment.
Finally, she closed her shop, went home and got ready. She’d been in charge of bringing something to drink, but had also bought some freshly baked bread on her way home. It was polite to arrive with more than you were required to bring, especially when making friends. And though Garth had said mead was fine, which was the beverage Iliana preferred, she’d picked up some ale as well, since he’d mentioned it.
It had taken her awhile to get ready because she was entirely unable to make decisions. What sort of dress was she supposed to wear? How was she supposed to do her hair? She normally wore jewelry, because she was trying to sell it, but she wasn’t selling any to him, right? Eventually she settled on a simple dark green gown, because she knew it complimented her hair nicely, left her hair down for once, instead of braiding it back, and chose not to wear any jewelry at all. She’d decided simple was the way to go, and made it the theme of her appearance for the evening.
She put the ale, mead, and bread in a cloth lined basket, fastened her cloak around her shoulders, and headed out into the cold night, towards Garth’s house. This was actually the first time she was going into anyone’s house in Kattegat other than her own. She didn’t think the great hall at the harvest feast really counted.
Knocking on the door quickly, Iliana found the cold air helped to calm her thoughts, and took a deep breath, hoping this would all go well. She even tried to quiet that ever present pessimistic voice in her head that told her things never go well for her. This would. She’d try her best to make sure it did. |

| Garth was still nervously walking around his house waiting for Iliana to come over. He hoped she was going to enjoy herself, he had spent the entire day making sure everything was perfect and nice for when she got here. He had even made sure to wear some of his new clothes he had just gotten made. One that were clean and perfect still, not having been worn in the forge yet. Once he did wear it there it would forever smell like metals and fire. Garth was use to that smell, but he didn't want to put her off is she didn't like it. He was brought out of his mind and his walking stopped when he heard the knocking at the door. This was it she was finally here and the night was going to start. The whole idea of it made his heart race. What if he made a fool of himself like he had done in inviting her here in the first place. Not to mention she was a bit younger then him, so he hoped he didn't make her uncomfortable with just their age gap alone. Taking a deep breath he tried to calm himself, and start acting like the man her was, before he walked over to the door and opened it. When his eyes fell on her, he could already see that she looked different then normal. Her her was all down, something he noted that he liked a lot. It made her look so much more relaxed and beautiful. He could spend hours just standing there looking at her and taking everything in, however it was cold and he wasn't going to be weird today. "Good evening Iliana, please come in." he tells her with a smile and steps to the side. Garth watches as she walks inside and then shuts the door behind him. Iliana greats him in return and he smiles at her largely. He is still very nervous, but doesn't want to be awaked, or unfriendly at all. "Here, let me hang up your cloak." he says to her next. Garth says next before she it to him. He hangs it up quickly, before looking back toward her, still smiling all the same. She is wearing a green dress, one that had been blocked by her cloak before. It looks so beautiful with her hair down the way that it is that Garth just stairs at her for a moment. He notices she isn't wearing any of her pieces today as well. Maybe it was more conferable for her without them. Whatever the reason was for her simple attire, he was grateful. For he never thought she looked so beautiful as she did in this moment. It made him wish she wore her hair like this all the time, but he would never say that. It was not his right to tell her what to do, even if they ever got together, he would let her do what pleased her. Not make her do things to please him.Taking a deep breath he blinked and got ready to speak again. He realized he had been a bit quite for a moment and was just staring at her. Face going red a bit he said "I am glad you have joined me today, I got everything ready for us to cook. So we could do that first, or if you aren't hungry yet we could just relax and talk? he said first. cursing himself for saying so much at once. Clearly he was still very nervous and this was just making it worse. "I mean, whatever you want. You are my guest....oh and umm if you look at the table..there is a surprise for you there.." he added. Scratching the back of his head as he looked at her. His face even more red then before. He hoped her looking at the knife he made her would make things less awkward. |

| The door opened quickly, and Iliana smiled at Garth as soon as he came into view. Entering the house, she looked around quickly, curious about what his house looked like, but not wanting it to look like she was really scrutinizing or anything. Her attention quickly returned to him and she handed him her cloak when he offered to take it from her. “How are you?” she inquired as a greeting, before holding up the basket with the things she’d brought along. “Where would you like me to…?” she trailed off the end of the question. She didn’t mean to seem impatient, she just wasn’t sure where he wanted her to place it.
“Thank you for inviting me,” she answered immediately. He was being extra polite, which Iliana thought was kind of funny. They barely knew each other, so obviously he had no way of knowing that she wasn’t the sort of person who offended easily. In fact the last time she’d spent one on one with a friend, she and Brynja had spent the whole time teasing and being mean to each other. But Garth couldn’t know that about her, and him finding out honestly worried her. Would he think she was strange and not want to be friends anymore? He seemed so nice, and she couldn’t imagine him being the sort of person who was ever deliberately mean to someone else.
Luckily, he mentioned cooking, and she smiled and nodded at him. “I brought bread, and mead, and ale. I wanted to contribute a little more,” she told him with a small shrug of her shoulders. “Oh, um, we can cook now? I’m not very hungry but I don’t mind talking and cooking at the same time?” By the time they finished they’d probably be hungry, she rationalized. Looking at the ingredients he had already prepared, she could guess what they were making. “Stew?” she inquired, trying to figure out what the cubed chunks of meat were. “Is it rabbit?” That sort of thing became easier to determine when you prepared all of your own food for most of your life.
When he told her to look at the table, she saw the knife he’d promised to make her and raised an eyebrow at him before walking over to pick it up. “It’s beautiful,” she remarked immediately, taking a moment to look at the work he’d done on the hilt. It was far more intricate than she’d been anticipating, noting the gems he’d laid into it. After properly examining the handle, she unsheathed it to admire the work on the blade itself. “It’s so detailed. I love it.” She turned back to smile at him, “Thank you! Though, I do remember insisting to pay for it, and I don’t have anything with me. I’ll have to come by your shop tomorrow.” Because she was going to pay for it. She got the impression she’d be haggling with him to raise the price, rather than lower it.
Turning in the direction of the food, she noticed immediately that he’d already gotten nearly everything done, short of actually putting the ingredients into the pot. “Next time I guess it’ll be my turn to do the cooking,” she said, laughing a bit, since he’d left very little actual cooking to do. It didn’t occur to her that she’d just unilaterally decided they’d be having dinner again in the future.
“So, we should probably get everything in the pot and then we can… talk while it cooks?” She’d managed to simply react to the things he’d been saying or doing, and most of her awkwardness had dissipated, but now that she’d recalled him saying they could talk and relax, that was exactly what was now making her feel awkward once again. Iliana didn’t particularly care for talking about herself, and hoped Garth would be happy with answering her questions, and not asking her any of his own.
She took a seat in front of where he’d placed the knife, and turned to look at him, hoping to kick things off and keep him from asking too many questions. “You said the other day that you’d been a blacksmith for quite a while? Did you always want to be one?” She found it interesting that some people seemed to have ‘callings’. She wasn’t sure she’d call jewelry making a calling exactly and wondered if he’d felt drawn to smithing, or if it was just something he’d discovered he was good at, and had chosen to pursue.

| Garth smiled when she asked him “How are you?” after he hung up her coat. "I am great!" he said to her quickly. He was so sucked into her beauty and how conferable she looked in her simple outfit. “Where would you like me to…?” he heard her say next, trailing off next. Garth sprung into action as he stepped forward and took it form her. "Here sorry, let me take that." he said before setting it onto he table and walking back over to her. “Thank you for inviting me,”he heard her say next and his face lite up in a large smile. He was glad she was happy to be here so far. "You're welcome, thank you for coming. Ive been looking forward to this." he said to her next before wanting to kick himself once more. He was going to want to eat his foot after this was all said in done if he kept speaking without thinking. She just made his brain shut off in a way, he felt like he said things he would never say to anyone else so easily to her. She was like his weakness, and he was both fearful and excited about how much that would be proven to be true the more they got to know one another. Would he always feel this nervous and flustered around her? He hoped not, he wanted her to think he was normal. Not some grown man child. She spoke again “I brought bread, and mead, and ale. I wanted to contribute a little more,” telling him all that she brought. He felt badly that she ended up bringing so much more things. He had only wanted her to bring the drinks, but here she was brining two drinks and bread. Such a thoughtful women she was. "Thank you so much, you didn't have to bring so much stuff." Garth made sure to tell her in return. Then he asked her what she wanted to do and she said “Oh, um, we can cook now? I’m not very hungry but I don’t mind talking and cooking at the same time?” were her words. It made him want to kick himself for how much he had already prepared everything. There really wasn't much left for them to do together other than put it int the pot. “Stew?” she asked as she was looking at all the stuff. Garth shook his head yes at her. Stew was easy, and it would take a bit longer to cook. Giving them more time to talk. He had put a lot of thought into what kind of meal that they would be having and the type of meat he wanted to buy too. He was going to go hunting for this, but he had spent so much time on her knife and other projects that he didn't have the time to do so. Next time he would make sure the the meat she was eating was something he hunted for her. She was more then worth it so far. “Is it rabbit?” Iliana asked next and garret nodded his head again. "Yes." he said simply. Scared he would over talk and eat his foot even sooner. Garth told her to look at the table, knowing she would see the knife he made her. “It’s beautiful,” were her first words after she picked it up. He was glad she thought so. He had spent so many hours on the handle alone. He was very proud of his work on this, and she deserved nothing but the best. “It’s so detailed. I love it.” she said to him next and he never felt more proud as he looked at her smile. “Thank you! Though, I do remember insisting to pay for it, and I don’t have anything with me. I’ll have to come by your shop tomorrow.” she said next and Garth felt his smile fall just a hair. He was hoping she would forget about that. He wanted to give it to her. "I would rather it be a gift, but if you are sure, you can come over tomorrow or any other time. I do not mind." he tells Iliana. His face a lite with a blush again. "But I am glad you liked it, I spent a long time making it perfect for you." he said next before his face got redder. She was going to be the death of him and everything manly about him at this rate. When he watched her look over the food more he waited to see what she was going to say about how much he had already prepared everything. “Next time I guess it’ll be my turn to do the cooking,” he heard her say and his heart raced. Iliana just said next time, so she already knew she wanted to do this again. That made him so very glad to hear it. He would love to have dinner wth her everyday, he got lonely, but he would never in his life say that to her. He would die in embarrassment. "I did go little over board, but yes next time I'll bring the drinks and not go as crazy." he said with a laugh and a scratch to the back of his head. “So, we should probably get everything in the pot and then we can… talk while it cooks?” she said next and he nodded in return. They did just that before he watched her sit in front of the seat he had placed her knife. Garth grabbed the meed and poured two classes of it before handing her one and sitting down at the table as well. “You said the other day that you’d been a blacksmith for quite a while? Did you always want to be one?” He heard her ask and Garth smiled. "Yes, I have been for some time now." he said to her first before thinking a moment. "I Think I wanted to be a viking for a small period of time, but the idea of killing and taking Thralls wasn't something I wanted to do...I had always liked watched the Blacksmith in my old village. So I decided to do this instead. I am glad I did, it was one of my best decisions in life. I love what I do." he told her with a smile before taking a drink of his glass. "What about you, did you always want to make the beautiful jewelry that you now make? Or did you want to do something else" he asked her in return. He wanted to learn as much as he could about her. |

| Almost as soon as Garth had taken her cloak, Iliana was regretting wearing her hair down. She had a lot of it, and it was getting in her way. Plus, cooking with your hair all over the place was not a good idea, but she hadn’t even considered that when she’d made the decision not to braid it or pin it into place. So she pulled it all over one shoulder, in an attempt to keep it mostly contained. With her hair semi-under control, she smiled at Garth when he took the basket and thanked her for coming. He told her he’d been looking forward to it and she thought that was quite a nice thing to hear. Obviously she wasn’t going to tell him she’d been dreading the whole thing. That wasn’t a nice thing to hear.
“Me too,” she answered instead, with a smile, like the polite person her mother had tried to turn her into. When she explained what she’d brought, he told her she didn’t have to but she waved it away. She was glad she’d done it, especially when she realized he’d already done most of the work. “It was the least I could do.”
She noticed for a few moments that he’d suddenly become a bit closed lipped and wondered if she’d done something wrong. She certainly didn’t want him to stop talking, because that would ruin the part of her plan where she did very little talking. They couldn’t both stop talking, or it would be too obvious and awkward.
Luckily, once the conversation turned to the knife he’d made her, he started talking again. When her gaze moved from the knife to his face, she noticed he was blushing and couldn’t help but smile in response. Was he blushing because of her? It was kind of nice to realize she wasn’t the only one who did that. Though, knowing how much she hated feeling awkward and blushing around others, she felt a bit bad that it could be her fault. Unfortunately, she didn’t know how to fix the situation without calling attention to it, which would probably only make it worse.
“I couldn’t accept this as a gift, it looks so expensive.” She understood what it meant to sell a piece you’d put a lot of time, money and effort into. It meant ensuring you were fed for another month or two. “I don’t know what you might need jewelry for, but I would trade you for it?” A mostly even trade, since she was certain he’d charge more for a knife like this than anything she’d ever made, was about the best she could offer, other than paying for it like she wanted.
It wasn’t until he repeated ‘next time’ that Iliana finally became aware of what she’d said. She’d just very clearly asked him over for dinner at hers and hadn’t even realized it. She discovered the idea didn’t immediately horrify her and decided she didn’t mind spending time with him. Now that she knew he seemed to be just as awkward around her as she was around him. Why she found such a strange bit of information comforting, she’d never know, but she did. “Right, it’s a plan,” she told him with a smile.
Once the food was squared away, and they were sitting down to talk, Iliana thought her plan of getting Garth to talk about himself had worked brilliantly. She could understand deciding a life of fighting wasn’t something a person might be interested in. She’d made the same decision when she was younger, when her mother had tried to convince her the life of a shield maiden was for her. But then her plan backfired quite easily when he asked her about herself. She probably should’ve seen that coming.
“Um no, I didn’t really have anything in mind,” she answered simply, which was true. Her father had wanted her to become a blacksmith like him, and her mother had wanted her to become a shield maiden like her, and then they’d died and she had to fall back on the only skills she had. “I think I just got lucky with jewelry. My father was a blacksmith, so I spent a lot of time with him, and…” she shrugged. That was basically the whole story. Other than orphaned at thirteen.
Once again she tried to turn the conversation back to him. “You’re originally from… Skagerrak? Right? Do you miss it?” |

| Garth just smiled at her when she said “Me too,” after he said he had been looking forward to this. He was glad that she had been too. It made him feel a little bit more relax the more it looked like she looked comfortable to be around him. Then he saw she brought all kinds of thing and she told him she did too. He told her she didn't have to, but she just said “It was the least I could do.” to him. Garth smiled and just said "Thank you, it was sweet." to her with a large smile on his face. Doing his very best not to get too distracted by how beautiful she looked again. He didn't want to look like a fool just after they both seemed to be calming down and feeling much more comfortable together. He wanted her to want to come over again, not avoid him because all he did was get quite and stair at her and how beautiful she looked. Was he brave enough to tell her? The more he looked at her the more he wanted to say it out loud to her. However that could be taken as creepy, and not wanted by her. So he decided he would wait. If it somehow came up naturally he would be glad to tell her. Instead of just saying it randomly and throwing her off guard. They started to talk about the knife he had made her, and he had really hoped she would just let him give it to her as a gift. He wanted to make it for her, but he knew better than to push things. “I couldn’t accept this as a gift, it looks so expensive. she said to him, and in his mind Garth thought she deserved all the expensive looking things. If she was ever to be his women, if the gods were on his side, he would be sure that she was showered in gifts, and things of that nature. He was sure that was how you were meant to treat your women. To give her the best of the best, however he wouldn't know. He had never really had a woman before. Only causally hooked up with people a couple of times. Nothing that had meant anything really at all to him. “I don’t know what you might need jewelry for, but I would trade you for it?” where her next words. Garth thought for a moment. "I am going home in a week for a visit, so maybe I could trade you for some necklaces for my mother and sister, I'll pay the difference " he offered her with a smile. He would pay as much as she would let him. "Also you deserve nice gifts." he blurted out before going red, and looking away. They went about putting the food into the pot, and getting it ready for dinner. She had told him that it was a plan, when he talked about brining drinks next time, and not going as over board as he had gone. It made him smile so much that she already knew she wanted to get together like this again. Even though he had eaten his own foot many times so far. At least she was enjoying herself a little bit. She asked him about his line of work and if it was what he always wanted, when he was done Garth was smart enough to turn it back toward her. “Um no, I didn’t really have anything in mind,” she said first and he nodded his head for her to go on and that he was listening. I think I just got lucky with jewelry. My father was a blacksmith, so I spent a lot of time with him, and…” she said next before shrugging her shoulders at him. He wondered if there was more to it, but he didn't want to make her feel weird and talk about things more then she wanted to. "Well you are the best of the best. Your work is better then anything I have ever seen..its almost as beautiful as you are." he told her as brave as he could. A light blush in his face again. Iliana changed the subject by asking him about his home. “You’re originally from… Skagerrak? Right? Do you miss it?” she asked and he put on his thinking face for a moment before answering. "I would say yes and no." he said to her first before smiling. "I miss my mother and my sister, but I don't miss my mothers husband. He hated me, but raised me anyways. I was lucky he was as kind as he was, but his hate was obvious and very present my whole life." he said with a shrug before going on. "I like the idea of coming here and starting new, so I did. I still visit when I can, my sister, I miss her the most. She's a little crazy, Yrsa, she is a shield maiden, and she loves all animals. She has a good heart and soul." he said about Yrsa with a far away look on his face. shaking his head he looked toward her again. "What about you? You are from Uddevalla right? do you miss it there?' he asked her. He wanted her to talk now, after he had went on and on. |

| As surprising as she found it, Iliana was actually having a very nice time. She was still feeling a bit awkward but having noticed the occasional reddening of Garth’s cheeks, she assumed it wasn’t a one sided thing, which actually helped her feel a little more relaxed. She sipped at her mead slowly, enjoying the sweet taste, and trying her best to actually participate in the conversation. She’d certainly prefer if he just kept talking so she didn’t have to, but she wanted to be able to have a real conversation with him without blushing or fidgeting or looking ridiculous, so she had to be involved.
After she suggested a trade for the knife instead of accepting it as a gift, or paying him for it, she was pleasantly surprised when he accepted the idea. He mentioned going home and she thought it was so sweet that he’d get presents for his mother and sister. Sure, that was probably fairly normal, she guessed. She wouldn’t really know. But Iliana thought he was sweet to do it anyway. Before she had a chance to say so though, he told her she deserved nice gifts and she shook her head with a smile. “I don’t need gifts. But you’re very sweet, to give me this in exchange for gifts for your mother and sister. What do you get out of all of this?” She wondered, gesturing to the knife, genuinely trying to figure him out. Was he really just this nice? She found that hard to believe. In her admittedly limited experience, people weren’t just nice for no reason. But from what she’d discovered about him so far, he very well could be.
With the stew stewing, they’d started talking about themselves, something Iliana had hoped to avoid. But clearly it was too late now to accomplish that. After she told him about how she’d gotten into jewelry making, he told her she was the best and she knew she had to be blushing harder than she had before. She’d been about to whisper another ‘thank you’ when she realized he’d just called her beautiful and her eyes widened as she looked at him across the table. Was he… joking? Or was he being serious right now? While she wasn’t an insecure person, she was certainly a skeptical one, and always assumed people had ulterior motives for everything they said or did. What possible reason could he have for being this nice to her? Other than the slightly obvious ‘he wants to sleep with you’ that passed through her mind briefly, but this seemed rather above and beyond if he just wanted to sleep with her. Right?
“Um… thank you?” she replied, finally, hesitantly. How else were you supposed to reply to something like that? Hopefully he wouldn’t think she was too odd for not knowing how to politely react to compliments like that. They were a fairly rare thing for her.
When he started talking about his family, she smiled at him. His affection for his mother and sister were abundantly clear, but when he mentioned his mother’s husband, she frowned a little bit. His step father didn’t seem like a very nice person. She didn’t know how someone could marry a person and hate their child. It’s not like whatever the situation was with his real father was his fault. He shrugged it off, but it was hard to miss that it had clearly affected him. If he didn’t care about the way his mother’s husband had treated him, Iliana didn’t think it would’ve come up.
“He sounds shitty,” she replied with a nod. Being mean was basically her default setting so the words had escaped before she’d really thought anything of it and immediately bit her lip when she realized what she’d said. “I mean…” she started, attempting to recover but was unable to, and just shrugged. “Sorry, that’s not a very nice thing to say.” Hopefully he wouldn’t be too offended.
Fortunately, he started talking about why he’d left Skagerrak and about his sister and she smiled again. It was pretty cute, the way he talked about her. They were clearly very close. “That must’ve been hard, leaving her behind? But she’s a shield maiden? That’s very impressive.” She’d always been a big supporter of warrior women, even if she herself wasn’t one.
He asked her about Uddevalla and Iliana nodded at him. There was nothing especially interesting about Uddevalla, in her opinion. “Yes, I’m from Uddevalla. It’s… very gloomy there.” She didn’t exactly hate the gloom that hung over the whole place like a dark cloud, but she never would’ve been able to make a decent living selling jewelry there. “I miss my friends? All three of them,” she added with a laugh. “But I don’t miss the place. Iron is fairly abundant so it’s hard to actually make any money selling jewelry there.”
She couldn’t think of anything else to ask him about his background, but she couldn’t not ask him anything or he’d have free reign to just ask her whatever he wanted and she didn’t like that idea one bit. “You’ve been here for a while, right? What do you do for fun? When you’re not making gorgeous knives?” |

| Garth was still feeling stupid for opening his mouth and telling her that she deserved nice gifts, even though he thought it was true. That someone like her deserved to be showered in gifts. That all women should for having to put up with men the way that they do. “I don’t need gifts. But you’re very sweet, to give me this in exchange for gifts for your mother and sister. What do you get out of all of this?” Iliana asks him and this throws Garth. What does he get out of giving them gifts and making them happy? The smiles on their faces "to see my mother and sister happy. To know that I did a nice thing for them?" he tells her and then smiles at him. "I don't do anything with the idea that I will get something in return. That is just now how I am." he tells her next with a shrug. He thinks that she clearly has met some of the wrong people in her life if she thinks everyone does something to get something. Or maybe he was just a strange person and he should be more selfish? Garth didn't know nor did he care. He was happy being the way he was, and it made his family happy too. However as the night goes on he just keeps eating his foot. They were having a normal conversation and he goes and tells her she is beautiful. He had said she was more beautiful then her work, and he had meant it, because he thought she was the most beautiful women he had ever laid his eyes on. Nonetheless he had wanted to wait until they had been meeting like this a little bit longer, maybe when they had dinner together the next time at her house. But it just slipped out and it wasn't like he could just take it back, and even if he could he wouldn't. He had meant his words, but had just wanted to wait to use them for a little while longer. “Um… thank you?” was what she told him as he looked at her face with the bright red blush on it. How could he fix this without making it anymore weird and awkward? Garth really wasn't sure that there was a way. "I...you're welcome..." he tells her awkwardly first. "I hope...that I didn't make you uncomfortable.." he adds to her next. Praying he didn't just ruin everything. The subject changes to his home like and his family. He tells her a lot about his mother and sister, and touches just a bit on his mothers husband. A man he disliked so heavily that it clearly came out strongly as her next words are “He sounds shitty,” to him Garth is shocked that the words have come out of her mouth, but slowly a smile comes on his face. “I mean…”she says next and he just smiles brighter. “Sorry, that’s not a very nice thing to say.” she says lastly and he just laughs finally. A good strong laugh after all the awkward that just happened. "He is shitty, so its okay! I would say much worse things."he tells her after he finishes laughing. He liked that she said something like that, but it had shocked him just a bit. They started to talk about why he left home and what he missed. He talked a lot about his sister Yrsa, the person that meant so very much to him. “That must’ve been hard, leaving her behind? But she’s a shield maiden? That’s very impressive.” Iliana said to him and Garth smiled. "Yes, she is very strong. Has been her whole life. I am very proud of her and all she does. I miss her a lot, but visiting helps" he tells her with a smile as he thinks about his baby sister, and what she had done with her life so far. Garth asks her about her own home next and she says “Yes, I’m from Uddevalla. It’s… very gloomy there.” to him first. That was what he always heard about that place. “I miss my friends? All three of them,” she says next and he is surprised she doesn't have hundreds. She is so nice and lovely. Iliana goes on. “But I don’t miss the place. Iron is fairly abundant so it’s hard to actually make any money selling jewelry there.” she says about it lastly. He guesses that makes a lot of sense. It was a iron village. "Well I am glad you are here..for we wouldn't have met." he tells her with a gentle smile. Trying not to be weird or anything else that way. “You’ve been here for a while, right? What do you do for fun? When you’re not making gorgeous knives?” She asks next to change the subject. He feels that they are talking about him a lot, but she is telling a bit about herself too. "I have, a few years now. I enjoy a lot of things. Going hunting, though I am not the best, swimming in the spring and summer, riding horses out in the woods, going to the tavern to unwind. A lot of things outdoors really" he tells her while thinking. He worked a lot, but in the warm months he liked to do fun things outside. "What about you? What do you like to do for fun here?" he turned it back on her again. |

| Iliana could tell from the way Garth reacted to her question that he hadn’t been expecting it. And he seemed shocked that she’d even ask such a thing. His answer seemed honest to her but… strange. He really was a genuinely nice person, it seemed. It made her feel bad for even asking him that, like he’d think she thought he wasn’t really a nice guy. He was just… too nice. Too nice for her, anyway. “Well, you’re very nice. Probably one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.” Because Redra was certainly right at the top of that list as well. “I just… haven’t met many people who think that way,” she added, feeling a bit awkward again.
Honestly it was her own negative outlook on life that probably had her so shocked by his behavior. If she wasn’t always immediately jumping to the worst possible conclusions, and assuming the worst from people, she might’ve realized there were plenty of nice people in the world. But… that was simply not her experience.
Things had become more awkward when he complimented her and then she felt bad because he was worried he’d made her feel uncomfortable. He had, most definitely, but that wasn’t really his fault. She just didn’t know how to interact with him like a normal person, it seemed. “No, it- you’re fine. It’s fine. You just caught me by surprise. Thank you.” She said more like an actual thank you and less like an awkward question this time, which was a nice change for her.
He laughed at what she said about his stepfather, which was a relief. She let out a bit of a sigh, but returned his smile and nodded at his response, “Well, I get the feeling he deserves whatever you have to say about him.” She didn’t want to linger on a negative topic, and clearly his stepfather was a negative topic for him, so she was glad when he started talking about his sister instead. Being an only child, she couldn’t exactly relate. “I’ve never… had that kind of thing. I bet it’s nice,” she told him with a smile, before realizing she’d just done that thing she’d told herself she wouldn’t be doing; Freely offering him information about herself. At least she hadn’t blurted out anything like ‘hey, I’m actually the worst.’
She blushed again when he added that he was thankful she’d moved to Kattegat because they’d met. He really just needed to stop saying such nice things because she had no idea how to reply and she felt rude and then she felt awkward, and all he was doing was trying to have a conversation with her. But he answered her questions and told her what he liked to do in his spare time and she smiled as she took another sip of her mead. “I can tell,” she replied with a laugh. He clearly enjoyed spending time outside. He asked her the same question, and Iliana had to think for a moment. She stared at him the whole time, chewing on her lip without realizing it. “Um, I haven’t really been here long enough?” she answered, still trying to think. “Back home I mostly…” mostly spent her time alone, at home or in her shop or occasionally with the twins, being mean to people with Brynja for the hell of it, “kept to myself, I guess? Or spent time with my friends when we weren’t all busy.” Iliana tried to think about things she just liked, rather than things she enjoyed doing, and shrugged at him a bit. “I like watching it snow, and being outside in the wintertime. Probably because Uddevalla looks really pretty and slightly less gloomy when it’s covered in snow,” she told him with a smile.
After a few moments, Iliana realized she didn’t have any other questions for him and for whatever reason, it wasn’t causing her to panic. Despite being utterly determined not to answer any personal questions she didn’t need to, or give him free reign to ask her whatever he wanted, she didn’t hate the idea of it any longer, and mentally shrugged, deciding that he wasn’t like other people, and wouldn’t use whatever she told him to hurt her. Plus, this evening was turning out far better than she’d expected, so if he had questions, where was the harm in just letting him ask them? “I can’t think of any other questions,” she announced after a minute and shrugged at him again. “Do you have any for me?” |

| Garth was still shocked by what she had asked him. What he was going to get from doing nice things from others. He needed to show her that there were people out there in this world that didn't want things in return for their actions. “I just… haven’t met many people who think that way,” he hears her say in return to him and he has to make sure she knows that this is the right way of thinking then. He hatred that she was thinking this wasn't normal. Sure he knew hardly anyone who had the same mindset about things as he did, but he was pretty sure it was a lot nicer to do things for others because it was a nice thing to do, rather then expecting things in return. "I guess there aren't many who think like I do, but at least I know I am doing something nice because its the right thing." he says to her before shrugging his shoulders at her. It was the way he was, and it was he way he was going to stay. Then things turned when he told her she as beautiful, making them both feel uncomfortable. “No, it- you’re fine. It’s fine. You just caught me by surprise. Thank you.” he hears her say and Garth just smiles and tries to change the subject and drop it. At least the subject changed to his home village and his life at home. Iliana made a comment about his stepfather that made him laugh and tell her it was fine. “Well, I get the feeling he deserves whatever you have to say about him.” she says in return and he just shrugs again. The man was still his stepfather, and he had to be respectful. It was his mothers wishes. They started to talk about his sister and other things, he kind of went over board. However he was so proud of Yrsa and all the things she did. “I’ve never… had that kind of thing. I bet it’s nice,” he hears Iliana say to him and it occurs to him he had no idea she had no siblings. He would have to introduce her to his sister the next time she was home. "It can be crazy...to have a sibling sometimes, but its nice. I would love for you to meet her when she visits next." he says to her with a smile. As the conversation kept moving along he could see that his awkward comment about her beauty was all forgotten and that they were feeling more comfortable again. Her blush at his words made him smile and feel a little warm. He liked making her blush, and hoped to keep doing it to her if he could. He told her what he liked to to before asking her what she liked to do. “Um, I haven’t really been here long enough?” Iliana says to him after a moment, and he guessed that was true. She had only been here a short time. As she went on he made sure to give her his full attention. “Back home I mostly…” she added next “kept to myself, I guess? Or spent time with my friends when we weren’t all busy.” she said after. Garth liked learning more and more about her it seemed. Any information she gave him, he payed attention to so he would not forget. “I like watching it snow, and being outside in the wintertime. Probably because Uddevalla looks really pretty and slightly less gloomy when it’s covered in snow,” she added next and he smiled. ""That sounds nice, I would like to visit them someday. I shall do it in the snow then, so I can see it when you think its at its best." he says to her first. "And the longer you are here the more you will find you like to do here. I kept to myself mostly when I first came as well." he says next. The got quiet for a little bit, and he was waiting to see what she wanted to know next, and what she was going to do. He didn't want to be overwhelming her, so he was just waiting until she spoke. “I can’t think of any other questions,” she says to him after a few moments. It makes him bit his lip for a moment before she speaks again. “Do you have any for me?” she asks him and he smiles next. Giving her a small nod that he did have some for her. "I might have a few." he says with a laugh. "What are your parents like? I got the impression your an only child..." he asks her first smiling. Wanting to learn more about her and her life. |

| Smiling at his reply, Iliana nodded at him. “Well, I’m glad you’re different,” she told him honestly. It was nice for her, she realized, to not have to constantly worry about what someone really wanted, or was really thinking. He was being nice to her because he was a nice person. It would certainly take her a while to adjust, but she liked being able to relax around him.
Iliana laughed lightly at his comment about siblings. She didn’t have any herself, and didn’t know what it was like to have any, but her best friends were twins, so she knew it could be a bit crazy at times. Her eyes widened in surprise when he said he’d like her to meet his sister, but she nodded at him again. “I’d love to. She sounds nice.” At least, if she was anything like her brother, she’d be extra nice. “Does she visit you often?”
Garth told her he’d like to see Uddevalla when it’s covered in snow and she smiled a bit, finding the idea of him in Uddevalla almost comical. “I’m sure you’d like it. If you like snow, at least. But you should visit Uddevalla; With all the iron, you might be able to save some money getting it there?” She didn’t really know if the price was dramatically different in Uddevalla than it was in Kattegat or Skagerrak, since she hadn’t actually had to buy it in Kattegat yet.
“That’s true,” she replied when he said she’d figure out what she likes to do once she’d been there longer. “I’ve mostly kept to myself, and the shop, working on projects. Once I start to get out more, I’m sure I’ll have a bit more fun.” Thinking back about what he’d mentioned he enjoyed, she added, “I do like to ride. It’s been a while, though.” Her mother had had a horse, but he’d had been one of the first things she’d sold after her father died.
When he answered her and said he might have a few questions for her, it doesn’t worry her the way it would have earlier in the evening, and she chuckled a bit in response. But her smiled faded just a bit at his questions. She probably should have expected a question like that. Iliana looked away for a moment. “Yes, I’m an only child. My mother was a shield maiden and my father was a blacksmith. They always wanted a lot of kids but… that didn’t happen, obviously.” She smiled at him briefly. “She died when I was twelve, and him a year later. So, it’s been just me. For a while.” Shrugging lightly, she hoped he wouldn’t be weird about it.
While she obviously missed her parents, she didn’t like to dwell and she certainly didn’t need anyone’s pity. But Garth didn’t exactly seem like he’d change his opinion of her for something like that, so she wasn’t too worried. “That’s probably why I’m so awkward around other people,” she told him with a laugh, trying to lighten the mood a bit. “Was, um… was that all you wanted to know?” She thought he might’ve decided against asking any more personal questions after her last answer. |

| Garth's face got bright red when she said “Well, I’m glad you’re different,” to him. It made him happier that he was different too. That he cared more about others then most did. He liked that he was this way, and she liked that he was this way. So that was enough for him. Plus his mother and sister were happy he was so nice to them. Iliana had know idea how much her words and thoughts meant to him, and he wasn't sure why a woman he was still getting to know was making him feel this way too. Any bit of praise she gave him was enough to make him blush and for his heart to beat just a little bit faster. Trying to calm himself he changed the subject to his sister and told her that he would love for them to meet someday. “I’d love to. She sounds nice.” Iliana says to him first, fallowed shortly after by “Does she visit you often?” to him. He nods his head and smiles. "She comes as much as she can, and I go there in between. She should be coming to visit a little bit after I come back from going there. So you can meet her then." he says to her next with another smile. They start to talk about her home and how he wanted to go and visit there someday as well. “I’m sure you’d like it. If you like snow, at least. But you should visit Uddevalla; With all the iron, you might be able to save some money getting it there?” she says to him in return and he hadn't even thought about it like that before. He was sure she was right. It made him want to go even more. "I never thought about that, I'll have to go with you someday. So you can show me around and as you said, I can save myself some money." Garth says to her with a smile as he thinks about going on a trip with her, and stops himself. For he knows he is moving far to fast in his mind. He knows he needs to take his time in this matter. If he moved to fast for her, he was going to scare her away. Garth was not going to scare her away, not when he liked her this much. They start to talk about things to do here and what they liked to do here. “That’s true,”she said to him first “I’ve mostly kept to myself, and the shop, working on projects. Once I start to get out more, I’m sure I’ll have a bit more fun.”she says next and he just nods his head. He had done the same thing until Kol had become his friend and made him come out of his little shell more. “I do like to ride. It’s been a while, though.” she says next and he smiles more. "We shall have to go riding together sometime. If you want that is." he says to her next before biting the inside of his mouth a bit and looking to the side a little bit. He hoped that was not to forward with her, and was just coming off as the friendly person he was trying to hard to be. However he really did want to spend more time with her. He enjoyed her time so very much. The conversation changed to her and her family, and the things she told him made him want the ground to open up and swallow him whole. “Yes, I’m an only child. My mother was a shield maiden and my father was a blacksmith. They always wanted a lot of kids but… that didn’t happen, obviously.” he hears her say, and then she adds “She died when I was twelve, and him a year later. So, it’s been just me. For a while.” after and he has never felt worse in his life. Why had he asks her something like that. If she didn't share it, then there was a reason for it, and he had just learned it right now. He had know idea what to even say. He was sorry? He was sure she had heard that enough, and no one wanted pity. He knew that from his life. So he didn't think she was going to want that from him, however he did feel bad. “That’s probably why I’m so awkward around other people,” she says next and he looks at her strange. She was not Awkward. “Was, um… was that all you wanted to know?” was what she says next and he realizes he hasn't said anything in a while. "I...I'm sorry for your loss...even if it was sometime ago, but your not awkward. You're prefect the way you are" he says to her before going red, but not looking away. "But, um we can be done with questions for now I think...maybe check on the food." he says to her next before taking a big drink of him mead and then pour himself even more. |
