Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Empty
PostSubject: Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] EmptyMon Oct 16, 2017 1:38 am

Continued from here.

Iliana couldn’t help but laugh at Brynja’s comment about her height as the two women gathered their things and exited the jewelry shop together. Her friend had made similar comments a time or two in the past but it had been quite a long time since Iliana had thought about it. She knew she was taller than most women and even some men but it wasn’t something she bothered herself about very often.

“I’ve missed you too,” she replied to the brunette's final comments, glancing at her friend. “I guess I’ll just have to keep coming back for visits,” she added with a smile, as if that would be some kind of hardship for her. Granted, getting back and forth to Uddevalla wouldn’t be the easiest feat but she’d managed so far, she was certain she could pull it off without too many issues.

While on their way back to the farm Brynja shared with Redra, the redhead considered what her friend had said about the rumor that the Ragnarssons were descended from Odin. It seemed a bit unlikely to her. Surely they’d have been a little more impressive if they were related to a god? Though, she knew Björn’s title ‘Ironside’ couldn’t have been given to him for no reason, so perhaps there was some truth to it? She was now determined to stick her nose in their business when she returned to Kattegat. She was nosy and liked to know things about people. It made judging them a whole lot easier.

It was a bit of a walk to the farm, but the pair of friends didn’t mind travelling together in relative quiet. Neither of them were the sort who needed to fill silence with awkward chit-chat. Upon arriving at their destination, they headed directly towards the garden the twins tended to, hoping to find Redra quickly. She missed her friend even more than she’d realized before Brynja had walked into her old shop.

“Is it likely she’s still in the garden?” Iliana wondered, double checking to make sure she hadn’t left the necklace for Redra behind in the shop. That would be embarrassing.

Sorry, it's super short!

Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] EmptyMon Oct 16, 2017 5:54 am

Brynja likes walking with Iliana, partially because her friend doesn't require--or even like--idle chit-chat. Brynja's grateful for that, it gives her a chance to try to clear the slight pounding still lingering behind her eyes. The walk helps, and by the time they reach the farm, she feels back to normal. Or, as normal as she does after her nightmares, that is. Brynja shrugs at Iliana's question. "Probably. That was really all we had to do today was tend the garden." There was almost no way she would be finished yet. Brynja hadn't been gone for that long, and they had quite a bit of weeding to do. She didn't mind gardening, usually. It's quiet and peaceful, two things she appreciates. She doesn't even mind her sister's chatter, as long as she doesn't have a headache. For all her darkness, Brynja adores her younger twin.

Redra is light and peace and love, everything that Brynja isn't. It takes a certain kind of strength to see the pain that the twins see and choose to remain cheerful despite it, to choose to love even in the face of darkness. Redra possesses a very different strength from Brynja, but that doesn't make her less strong. Even though sometimes she wants to scream because of Redra's positive nature, she would do anything in her power to protect her. She's glad she was born first, glad she was given the darkness so Redra could have the light. It's a price she'll gladly pay every day for the brightness of Redra's smile.

She rounds the corner of the house and opens the small gate they keep around the garden to keep the rabbits and other animals out, summoning one of her rare grins. She can't wait to see Redra's reaction to Iliana's visit.

Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] EmptyMon Oct 16, 2017 9:08 pm

A drop of sweat ran through Redra’s forhead and the girl wiped it out with the back of her dirty hand. The girl spent the whole morning taking care of the garden were she and her sister grew medical plants. They had a lot to take care of that day so she was hoping Brynja would come back home soon.

Brynja was the opposite of what Redra was. Dark, pretty moody and sometimes even scary, but Redra loved her with her whole heart. It was in Redra’s nature to love every living creature, but Brynja had a special place in the girl’s heart. Redra somehow hoped that she could be positive enough for them both and sometimes, that would become difficult even to her. When she was feeling down, she would hide it behind her beautiful and bright smile.

Her toughts faded away when she heard some voices getting closer to the garden. One of those voices was Brynja’s, but she couldn’t give a face to the second one. Redra got up and cleaned her hands on her old skirt, before heading towards the gate that was being opened in that exact moment.
Redra’s eyes went straight behind her sister figure, where a tall red headed girl was standing. She could recognize that hair everywere. Iliana.

Redra’s eyes widened at the sight of the girl and a huge smile brightened up her face. She knew Iliana moved to another village and she never thought she would be able to see her again. After a brief moment of shock, the girl ran up to the redhead and embraced her in a tight hug. “Iliana, I’m so glad you’re here!” She said, not wanting to end the hug. “I missed you so much,” the girl continued, eventually letting go of her. “How have you been?” she then concluded, looking at her friend and giving her a bright smile.

Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] EmptyTue Oct 17, 2017 1:31 am

Following behind as Brynja opened the gate and walked through, Iliana’s face lit up when she spotted Redra already heading in their direction. It was impossible not to be at least a little bit cheerful around Redra, if Brynja’s smile was any proof. And Iliana certainly wasn’t immune to her friend’s contagious attitude.

She found herself pulled into a fierce hug, and quickly returned the gesture. “I’ve missed you too,” she replied immediately, honestly, smiling back at the brunette. She was only mildly surprised by how long the hug was lasting and couldn’t help but send a look towards Brynja who she fully expected to see rolling her eyes.

When the hug finally ended, Iliana took a small step back to take a moment to rummage through her traveling bag for the necklace. Lifting it out carefully, she reached out to hand the small cloth wrapped bundle to Redra. “I brought you something,” she told her with a smile. Within the bundle was a delicate torque style necklace she’d made in Kattegat and when she’d decided to bring gifts for the twins, that necklace had immediately reminded her of Redra. “You don’t have to open it now,” she added, since they were still standing near the garden gate. She didn’t want to put her friend on the spot.

Finally answering Redra’s final question, she shrugged her shoulders a bit. “I’m good.Kattegat is… not exactly what I’d imagined. But things are going well and I’ve met a few nice people.” Because Redra didn’t exactly have the same dark sense of humor that Brynja did, it wasn’t as easy to explain the problem with Kattegat to her. In fact, she rather thought Kattegat would be a good fit for someone like Redra. But she didn’t bother mentioning that. The twins seemed to belong in Uddevalla, where people knew them, and needed their help.

Plus, Brynja had made it abundantly clear that she had no desire to even visit Kattegat, and she wasn’t about to ruin the pleasant afternoon by upsetting either of her friends. “And you? How are things going here?” Of course she’d already asked Brynja the same question, but she knew from experience that their answers to the same questions could be dramatically different. “Brynja didn’t have much news to share,” she added with a smile in her friend’s direction, wondering if Brynja’s idea of news would match Redra’s. You could never tell with them.

Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] EmptyFri Oct 20, 2017 9:25 pm

When Iliana looks over at her from Redra's long embrace, Brynja is, in fact, rolling her large, dark eyes. She shoots Iliana a smile when she sees her looking, her face lighter than when they were in the village. Redra does annoy her with her cheerfulness sometimes, because Brynja is impatient and moody, but she loves Redra with every part of her heart. She leaves the two to catch up, stepping into the small house the sisters share without excusing herself. Once inside, she grabs three cups and a pitcher of ale, and a loaf of the bread she and Redra had baked the day before. She gathers all the things in her arms carefully and steps back out, blinking owlishly at the transition to bright sunlight.

She'd only been gone for a few moments, and gives Iliana a small glare when the girl says she had little news to share. "That's because things are the same as they were before." Brynja sets the cups down on the small table outside the door, where they sometimes set herbs to dry in the sun. There's a few small bundles on them now, and she is careful to avoid setting anything on them. She runs a finger lightly down one of the plants, testing its dryness, before pouring the water into the cups. Next she takes the small knife from she carries at her hip. She's about to start cutting the bread with it when she realizes her mistake. This is her wound-tending knife, the one she uses to dig debris out of wounds, or heat and hold against the wound to stop the bleeding. She hastily sheathes the knife and steps back into the house to get another knife.

This time she cuts the fresh bread into thick slices, gesturing with her hand for the others to grab something if they want it. She leans back against the wall of the house, slice of bread in hand, and her wide, dark eyes flit between her sister and her friend. She's glad for this moment with them.

Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] EmptyWed Nov 01, 2017 8:54 pm

The cheerful and smiling girl ended the tight hug in which she was holding her friend and took a step back. Her gaze went straight away to the girl's face, just to observe closely her features, making sure nothing changed too much. A smile appeared on her face, when she realized that the girl she had right before her eyes was the same Iliana she remebered.

Without even realizing it, Redra was holding a small cloth bundle in her hands. “I brought you something”, the red headed smiled and Redra couldn't help but smile wider back at her, then nodded at the second part of the sentence, putting the small package between her belt and her dress. "Thank you so much Iliana," the girl started, looking up at her friend. "I will open it once I clean my dirty hands" Redra smiled and showed her hands that just few moments before were working the land.

Redra was so focused on her friend being there, that she didn't even realize that her sister had somehow disappeared silently and was now back with cups, ale and bread. "That's because things are the same as they were before." The girl nodded looking at her sister for a brief moment and went back to look at Iliana right away. "She is right. But it's not as boring as it sounds." She winked to her friend before grabbing her hand and leading her to the table where her sister had placed food and drinks. She then poured some ale in a cup and handed it to her friend before pouring some for her sister and finally for herself too.
"Tell us more about Kattegat! Is it different from here?" Redra took a sip of ale and looked up at Iliana with a curious light in her eyes. She never went outside Uddevalla and she always wondered about foreign places and people. She loved her village, people were nice with them and she loved how everyone relied on them when it came to deal with their wounds or illnesses, she felt a nice sense of responsibility, at the same time, though, she always wanted to travel and meet new people.

Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] Staying a little longer [Brynja & Redra] EmptyTue Nov 07, 2017 11:16 pm

Iliana knew she was smiling far more than was normal for her, and almost felt self conscious about it. But, she’d missed her friends quite a lot. And it was almost impossible not to smile around Redra. Her enthusiasm was catching.

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Brynja slip away, but didn’t pay her any mind. This was their farm, after all. They both had a number of responsibilities to see to, and Iliana didn’t want to get in their way or interrupt their day too much.

Smirking at the glare her friend sent her way, Iliana nodded in understand when Redra confirmed her sister’s earlier statement. It seemed Uddevalla was exactly the same as it had been before she left. The redhead wasn’t really surprised, of course. Uddevalla had been the same for a while now. A few times she’d even found herself missing her old home; the solitude; the silence; the familiarity. It was rather reassuring to know it was still the same place she’d always known.

“Thank you,” she said when Redra handed her a cup, taking a small sip. She reached out to take a slice of the bread Brynja had sliced, nodding her thanks to the brunette.

When Redra asked about Kattegat again, Iliana tried to think about her new life in the other village. “Well, most people have been very nice. I did meet a thegn who was… prickly?” The younger woman had taken a little while to open up but Iliana was still working on her. “I met a shield maiden at the feast, and there’s a blacksmith from Skagerrak who seems nice.” She paused again to think about Kattegat outside of the few people she’d met. “Oh, it’s so much louder there. And crowded. Though, that makes it easy to get lost in the crowd.” And anyone who knew her knew that was how she preferred to live. She didn’t like attracting attention, preferring to keep to herself most of the time.

“I already mentioned to Brynja, but if you ever want to come and visit, you’re welcome to stay with me. I found a small house not too far from the shop.” She thought Kattegat would be a lot more fun if she were there with her friends. She was always more confident around Brynja, and nicer around Redra. It was as if their personalities rubbed off on her when she was around them.
