| Sofie had woken up early to go and train with the other Frú girls in the village like she did most days. She wanted to keep getting stronger, and show the others that she can be serious. That she can put her childishness aside in order to reach her goal. She was sure that if it wasn’t for the big trick she pulled on one of the shield maidens a few months ago that she would have moved up a rank. Looking back she sees now that she shouldn’t have done it, but the women had said something about her eldest sister giving up becoming a shield maiden, so she had to make sure that the women never did it again. Which she had, the women didn’t say anything negative about any of her sisters again, but now people aren’t taking her as seriously as they had been before her trick. So she has been showing her dedication as strongly as she can in the hopes that everyone would just forget about it and move on.
Once she was done training sofie made her way toward her home. She needed to bathe and get dressed into something not as sweaty and gross. She didn’t want a lot of people to see her looking dirty, no she wanted people to see her as nothing but beautiful and perfect. Not sweaty and dirty. She was sure that’s how men wanted their women anyways, and sofie was determined to find herself a future husband within the next year or so. That way she would have someone other than her sisters and mother who loved her and gave her all of their attention. Because deep down sofie wanted a man to help fill the man size hole in her heart that was her father. She missed him so much some days. He had been her everything. She looked up to him and how hard he worked for his family. However sofie would never tell anyone that was the real reason she wanted to get married so soon.
She didn’t want people to look at her like she was weak, to give people another reason to not think she was worthy of becoming a shield maiden in the near future. Upon arriving at her home she threw the door open and said “Good morning! Who’s here and awake?” As she walked further inside and toward the area she kept her stuff. Looking around for one or all of her four other sisters. Sofie would see who was awake and what they were up to for the day. Maybe help them with things if need be. If no one needed her then she would go explore the village. She had heard a new boy had shown up and that he was gorgeous. This of course sparked her interest greatly. Quickly bathing and getting dressed when she didn't hear anyone answer her, once done sofie made her way into the dining area, smacking right into one of her sisters on her way. “Damn it! What are you doing just standing in the middle of the hall! Some warning next time would be great!” Sofie demanded as she looked to see who she ran into. She didn't mean to be so grumpy, and maybe she should have been paying more attention, but who stands in the middle of the damn hallway. |

| Freyja could tell by the amount of sunlight that lit up her room that she’d slept in a bit later than she probably should have. But recently she’d started to slow down a bit and try to have more fun. She’d worked quickly and diligently for five years now, she thought she was entitled to continue at a more relaxing pace by now. She’d proven herself.
Finally dragging herself out of bed, she went to wash and dress. She’d have to head down to the docks eventually, but she was hoping to catch a few of her sisters before they were all separated for the day. Freyja was tying her hair back when she heard Sofie hollering and rolled her eyes. If she hadn’t been awake, she certainly would be now.
Slowly making her way towards the dining area, Freyja looked around in confusion, her hands on her hips. She knew she’d heard Sofie’s voice not too long ago. Where had she gone? And where was everyone else? Had she really slept in so late that she’d missed them all? Maybe Sofie’s yelling had only just woken some of them up and they were still getting ready?
Glancing at the fruit laying out on the table, Freyja was about to move farther into the room and take a seat when someone walked right into her. “Ow,” she remarked, wondering how it was possible for someone to walk into her like that. Didn’t anyone watch where they were walking? The blonde rolled her eyes as she heard Sofie’s voice berating her for standing in the hallway. Turning to face the seventeen year old, Freyja still had her hands on her hips, and shifted her weight to her back foot.
“Apology accepted?” she remarked, quirking an eyebrow at the brunette. “Where are you off to in such a rush?” She could only assume the younger woman had plans elsewhere if she was too busy adjusting her gown or hair or whatever else she’d been doing instead of watching where she was going. “Have you seen the others? There was something I wanted to talk to you all about before everyone’s left for the morning, but I overslept.” |

| Tora liked early mornings, before her sisters were awake and everything was so chaotic. She'd slipped outside with the rising of the sun, down toward a meadow near the woods where she knew flowers grew. The walk was quick, and she carefully pinched off a dozen or so of the late summer blooms and gathered them together. She'd set them in a jug on the kitchen table and maybe everyone would be quiet long enough to notice them. She wasn't counting on that, though. She loved her family but it seemed like someone was always talking. That was why she loved early mornings, why she often snuck off just for a a few moments of peace to herself.
She steps into the kitchen just in time to catch the tail end of Freyja's statement, but before going to join her sisters she sets the flowers in a jug, pours some water in with them, and sets it on the table. She turns toward the hallway, where the commotion seems to be originating from, and grins brightly at her sisters from the doorway. Her hair is disheveled from the wind, unlike Sofie's, and Freyja looks read to head out, too. Her cheeks are flushed pink and happy from her walk in the brisk morning, and even Sofie's annoyed expression can't shake her cheerful mood. "Good morning!" |

| Sleep was sacred to Visna, who used to sew or sketch down few ideas for her new creations for most of the night. Of course, that's exactly what she was doing the whole night before, with few candles surrounding her, in a mostly dark atmosphere. She fell asleep just few hours before down.
"Good morning! Who's here and awake?" Visna jumped out of the bed, scared because of that high volumed voice right in the room next door. "By the gods, who's screaming like that in the morning?" The girl said to herself, with an irritated tone. She got up and looked out of her window. The sun was pretty high in the sky and the light hurt her eyes that weren't used to such brightness.
The brunette moved from the window to the mirror, just to find herself with the worst swollen face she ever had. The cold water in the basin next to her mirror, helped her waking up when she splashed it on her face, but the dark circles under her eyes weren't giving any sign of fading anytime soon. Luckily she could stay at home for the day, since she knew her mother didn't need her at the shop. She hoped she could sleep and rest a lot during that day, but her sisters didn't agree with her apparently.
She moved from her room to the room from which the loud voice came from, only to find three of her sisters making a fuss, two of them standing in the hallway. "Do you intend to block the hallway forever?" Visna said, irritated. Her hair was loose on her shoulders, messy waves crowning her face, and her night gown, that of course she sewed herself, looked like an expensive and complicated dress, full of details.

| Sofie looked up at her sister Freyja in anger when she heard her say “Apology accepted?” to her. Rolling her eyes she looked at her sister when she said “Where are you off to in such a rush?” to her. "I'm hungry. I was training all morning." she said simply. Not bringing up the fact that she had heard there was a new boy in the village. Her sister was worried about her enough as it was, she didn't need her getting in her face about boys even more then she already did. It wasn't a bad thing to want to have a man. She just wanted love, no big freaking deal. “Have you seen the others? There was something I wanted to talk to you all about before everyone’s left for the morning, but I overslept.”Freyja said next and Sofie was just about to say something back when she saw one of their sisters walk into the kitchen where she had been headed before she ran into her sister. Tora was home and looked to have flowers in her hands. Sofie watched as the bright and bubbly sister walked inside and put the flowers on the table.
Sofie would never understand how Tora was always so damn happy. She was glad for it, but she wondered if it was a shield in a way, like she used her joked. "Good morning" Tora said to them both. Smiling at her baby sister Sofie said "Good morning Tora!" to her before turning to Freyja with an raised eyebrow again"Well there is one of them." she says with some sass. She moved to push her sister out of the way when she heard someone coming up behind her. "Do you intend to block the hallway forever?" Sofie heard Visna ask and she turned around to look at her. "I don't know, ask Freyja. She's the one still standing in the way!" she said as she pushed Freyja to the side gently before walking into the kitchen and grabbing an apple. Wasting no time in bitting into it and trying to fill her hungry stomach. Sofie looked around at her sisters. Tora like always was the only one who seemed it be in a good mood at the moment, and Rúna was off doing gods knows what. Most likely training or something along those lines.
"So most of us are now here, what was it that you wanted dear sister?" she said as she looked at Freyja before taking another bite. She was curious what Freyja wanted to talk to them about, and this was the best she was going to get to getting them all in the house at the same time. She would just have to tell Rúna of her plans later. That wouldn't be as hard as trying to hunt them all down at one by one. "I don't have all day however so get to it!" she said with a smile in between bites. |

| Why was it just impossible to people to be polite in the morning? By people, she meant Visna & Sofie, of course. Tóra was always polite and Rúna, well Rúna hadn’t snapped at her yet today, so she was still in Freyja’s good column for the moment. Crossing her arms over her chest, she sent both Sofie & Visna irritated looks before turning to take a seat at the table. “Morning, Tóra,” she replied to her youngest sister with a smile before turning back to glare a bit at the other two. That was how people were supposed to greet each other.
Well, at least she had their attention? She thought for a moment, allowing them all time to move wherever it was they were in such a rush to get to. When Sofie told her she didn’t have all day Freyja simply rolled her eyes. Sisters were such a hassle.
“I’ve been thinking, Mother’s birthday is coming up, and we should do something to celebrate. I thought maybe a nice dinner together,” she paused for a moment, recalling her discussion with Visna not too long ago about how a night out dancing might be fun for them all, “Or maybe some dancing at the tavern?” She looked to Visna and raised her brow, silently asking if that was still something she’d be interested in. “I just think, it’s been awhile since we’ve all done something together. And celebrating her birthday would be a good excuse? What do you all think?” |

| As expected, the moment she walked into the house was noise and sour attitudes. Most of her sisters definitely were not morning people. And poor Visna. Tóra knew she liked to stay up working on designs for her dresses and sleep later in the day, but apparently that wasn't going to happen today. She shoots Visna a sheepish smile, mouthing "sorry" at her with a small shrug, as if she was the one to wake her up. She hoped that by apologizing, it might ease her sister's annoyance a bit. Ever the peacekeeper, Tóra hated to see her older sisters annoyed at each other. She often took it upon herself to smooth things over between them. She just liked harmony.
She watches as Sofie pushes past Freyja and grabs an apple, then as Freyja enters the kitchen and sit at the table. Tóra leans against the wall, hands hanging by her sides, and watches her sisters with a small, happy smile It was so rare that all of them were together like this. Well, almost all of them, since Rúna was probably off training or something. Tóra tilts her head as Freyja speaks, her smile widening into an enthusiastic grin. It had been so long since they'd done anything fun, and their mother's birthday was an excellent excuse for just that. They hadn't had much cause for celebration since their father died, and hopefully this would be a good thing for them. She knew their mother usually didn't like them to make a big fuss over her birthday, but they should. She had done so much for them over the years.
"I think it's a great idea!" Tóra is quick to agree in her bright, cheerful voice. She grins around at her gathered sisters, as if willing them to share her enthusiasm. |

| Visna’s mood wasn’t the best in the morning. Especially if she wasn’t able to sleep well during the night, and that was definitely the case. She found herself in the hallway half asleep but completely annoyed, only wearing her night gown and with her hair messy on her shoulders, but she still managed to look flawless, apart from her slightly swollen face.
Tòra, the little angel of the family entered the house to find them bickering for who was supposed to stay in the hallway. Visna glanced towards her and she looked like she knew why she was so upset. The blonde apologised silently and her face warmed Visna’s heart a little. Just a little. Sofie and Freyja were still blocking the hallway, making it impossible for Visna to do anything. She said they had to move away from there and luckily for her nerves, they did as she requested and also pretty quickly.
She saw Sofie taking an apple ad Freyja moving towards the kitchen, so she realised they didn’t really move because she asked so, but simply because they had their things to do. ”They ignored me.” She thought, her irritation growing stronger. The girl inhaled deeply and closed her eyes. It was too early to get so mad at them, there was plenty of time to do it during the whole day and she didn’t want to waste her last energies for that.
Visna moved from the center of the hallway to the kitchen and sat on a random chair before laying flat on the dining table and closing her eyes, leaning her head on her arm that was resting over the wooden surface. “I’ve been thinking, Mother’s birthday is coming up, and we should do something to celebrate. I thought maybe a nice dinner together,” Freyja’s voice finally said something that Visna wanted to hear, a nice idea, almost. “Or maybe some dancing at the tavern?” The brunette immediately woke up and looked towards the direction from where Freyja was talking in the exact moment when she looked back at her. Visna simply nodded silently, but a smile grew on her lips at the thought of them having a nice and different evening after a long time. ”I think it's a great idea!" Tòra said in a cheerful voice and Visna nodded at her words. ”I agree.” Her voice wasn’t as cheerful as Tòra’s one. ”Shall each one of us invite someone? Just few friends maybe?” She then suggested. She didn’t want the party to be crowded, it was a surprise party afterall and they didn’t know how Kara would react to their initiative, but maybe inviting two or three close friends wasn’t a bad idea. |

| Sofie was still eating her apple and waiting for her sister to explain things to her. It was always so much fun to be around her sisters in the morning like this. Most of them were pretty grumpy and hated being up early. Tora, and herself were the only non lazy ones in the hose today. As Freyja, and Visna appeared to just have woken up. “I’ve been thinking, Mother’s birthday is coming up, and we should do something to celebrate. I thought maybe a nice dinner together,” Freyja said first. Sofie had to admit that the idea did sound nice. her sister then said. “Or maybe some dancing at the tavern?” that however sounded better. If they were at the tavern that meant she could get away with drinking and getting drunk. Not something she did all the time, but it was nice to let lose and have a lot of fun. They hardly had fun together as a family as it was. “I just think, it’s been awhile since we’ve all done something together. And celebrating her birthday would be a good excuse? What do you all think?” Her eldest sister added last. It was a good idea, and Sofie was just about to say so when someone beat her too it. "I think it's a great idea! Tora being the first one to speak.
”I agree.” Visna spoke next, adding in ”Shall each one of us invite someone? Just few friends maybe?” shorty after. Once she was sure all of her sisters where done talking, Sofie smiled. "I agree, the idea is really good. We haven't done anything for mother in some time. She more then deserves it." she says first before walking over and throwing her apple away. "However I think we should make it big, invite all the people who know mother, and give her a real surprise." Sofie says to them before crossing her arms over her chest. Their mother has been doing a lot for them, as has her older sisters, but mother worked hard. She was always at the shop, or doing things for them. Plus she put up with all of Sofie's pranks and jokes that she pulled on people all over the place. Hardly ever yelled at her too, that was mostly Freyja's doing."How surprised would she be if we had everyone she knew and lots of good gifts. She does a lot. I think the bigger the party, the better. she said finally. Smiling over at her sisters to wait and hear their ideas and thoughts of what she had just said to them. |

| Despite how grumpy the majority of the family was in the morning, Freyja was relieved that everyone seemed to agree with her idea about celebrating their mother’s birthday. She was already looking forward to it and they hadn’t even started really planning anything yet.
Almost immediately there was a disagreement about how to go about inviting people, and Freyja probably shouldn’t have been surprised. “I will leave the invitations to all of you. I don’t need to invite anyone, so everyone invites a few friends sounds reasonable? Just make sure you invite Mother’s friends, since it’s for her birthday.” Hopefully they could all take a hint.
“I’ll talk to the tavern owner, and ask some people about getting enough food for everyone,” she added absently, trying to think of anything else they’d need to cover to get everything settled. “But it’s a secret, so no blabbing! And make sure whoever you invite knows, so they don’t accidentally let it slip.” She looked pointedly at Visna, not because her sister couldn’t keep a secret, but because she spent the majority of time with their mother. “If anyone starts to slip up, try to come up with a cover story? Or just… shove them out of the shop? I don’t know. I believe in you.”
After a moment, Freyja recalled she had a message she was supposed to relay to her sisters. “Oh, make sure you all stop by the blacksmith’s soon. Ask for Hakon, he’s got something for you.” She didn’t really know if that was also supposed to be a surprise, but she thought it was pretty funny, imagining him dealing with her sisters, and chose not to explain further. She didn’t think any of them would give him trouble. They were, for the most part, usually polite. Her gaze slid to Sofie for a moment, but she chose to keep her mouth shut. No need to poke the bear, especially this early in the morning. She’d never hear the end of it. |
